About Queensland NOII

The Queensland NOII is run by David Turner (Director of Professional Learning for Queensland Primary Principals’ Association), Zoe Smith (Principal of Graceville State School) and Vicki Baker (Principal of Griffin State School). This network is part of the international NOIIE family, and provides many opportunities for professional learning and global networking throughout the year — centred around the Spiral of Inquiry model.

Updates & Impact of Study Tours

David Turner (Director of Professional Learning for the Queensland Primary Principals’ Association) set up a BC study tour for Vicki Baker (Principal of Griffin State School in Brisbane) three years ago, and now Vicki is assisting with the Queensland NOII, alongside Zoe Smith  (Principal of Graceville State School) and David Turner.

At the 2019 NOIIE Symposium in Vancouver, Zoe Smith shared some of the powerful work her school is doing with student inquiry — based on Kath Murdoch’s The Power of Inquiry. During the August 2019 Graceville Symposium, participants witnessed the impact of a coherent, school-wide approach to student inquiry during school hours. The Symposium was opened by a song in the Yuggera language and the acknowledgement of territory from the Graceville students — highly memorable!
