In one sentence, what was your focus for the year? How do we connect students from Nakusp Secondary School and Lucerne Elementary/ Secondary School through a Track and Field Meet.

III. Spirals of Inquiry Details

Scanning: We wanted to see if we could create connection between the students in our two high schools in the district.

Focus: We tried to create this connection through a Track and Field meet.

Hunch: It was a widely held and common misconception that both groups of students didn’t have a huge amount in common. Also, a number of the opportunities to meet and see each other throughout the school year were taken away or lessened during the pandemic.

New Professional Learning: I had the opportunity to learn all about how to run a track meet, and all the finite details that go into hosting such an event.

Taking Action: We wanted to keep our meet small, and take away the pressure of performance. Instead we wanted to focus on the connections the students could make with students from other schools.

Checking: We were not able to hold the Track Meet, but now have the planning in place to hold it in future years.

Reflections/Advice: The planning stage was very much uncharted territory for me, so the fact that it has been taken care of is a positive step moving forward.
